I am pleased to state the fact that the Lok Sabha worked for an additional 28 hours & 10 minutes to complete important financial & other matters. I am thankful to all the members for this.
-Smt Sumrita Mahajan, Hon’ble Speaker Lok Sabha on 14th August 2014
On the morning of 20th May 2014, never before seen scenes were witnessed at the Indian Parliament. The then designate PM, Shri Modi arrived at the parliament for the first time. But what happened after that was not expected by anyone. He bowed down at the stairs of the parliament, a symbol of the respect & reverence he had for the temple of our democracy.
When a PM respects the Parliament so much, it is no surprise if the functioning of the Parliament improves. Our Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha also saw a tremendous improvement in performance. According to a report, Lok Sabha worked for 104% while Rajya Sabha worked for 106% of the time. This first session of the 16th Lok Sabha was the second most productive session in the last 10 years. Also the Question Hour was the most productive session in the last 10 years.
